Supplemental Security Income, SSI
Children & Adults may qualify
The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program pays benefits to disabled adults and children who
have limited income and resources.
SSI benefits also are payable to people 65 and older without disabilities who meet the financial limits.
People who have worked long enough may also be able to receive Social Security disability or retirement benefits as well
as SSI.
SSI Application and Forms
There are many forms, documents, and applications involved in applying for SSI. In addition to your SSI application form,
you may be required to bring the following when applying for SSI:
Your birth certificate or other government-approved proof of age
Your Social Security card or a record of your Social Security number
Proof of U.S. Citizenship or eligible non citizen status the names, addresses and telephone numbers of doctors, hospitals
and clinics where you have been treated Information about the home where you live, such as your mortgage or your lease
and landlord's name Payroll slips, bank books, insurance policies, burial fund records and other information about your
income and the things you own
Your checkbook or other papers that show your bank, credit union or savings and loan account number
Gathering the necessary documentation for your SSI application can be incredibly time-consuming and complicated, and
once you have filed your claim you have no guarantee that it will be awarded. If you are applying for SSI, you have the
right to have someone represent you, and statistics clearly show that claimants who are represented by Binder & Binder®
win their SSI disability benefits far more often than those who apply on their own. Even if you've already had your SSI
application
